Think a Lot
@pensaremolto

Probably they already did it, in secret. They’re just not mentioning it because it’s too controversial. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already revived other extinct animals.

@Schaumanator

Audacity. That, and they never read or saw Jurassic Park, and do not understand the allegory ‘just because you can doesn’t mean you should’.

@cynicalbysix

The risk is too great. Mammoth farts could upset the delicate balance of trace atmospheric gasses ending the ice age of the 70’s. We could have Venus on Earth in less than twenty years!

Fine, fine, go ahead and make one. But they take dumps the size of a VW, I’m not cleaning up after it.

@wado1942

what are the giant reptile-like bones people are finding?

Why? For Jurassic park!

They should try to find some frozen mammoth 🦣 poop 💩 for the baby’s to eat.

I’ve been waiting 50 years to see this happen. You do raise some good points tho.

I hadn’t realized that mammoths were not pre-historic.

2 months ago | thumb_up 2 thumb_down 0

@Alwaysafreeman

Great presentation. I appreciate your discussion of the ethical concerns. On the positive side the recovery if the mammoths can be quickly reversed which isn’t possible with genetically changed small species like Florida’s mosquitoes.

2 months ago | thumb_up 1 thumb_down 0

What's this for?
@DrivenFearless

Waste of money! Maybe I’m ignorant but isn’t it possible that mammoths are simply elephants, and after death their hair and tusks continued to grow fooling scientists into believing it’s a new species of elephantidae?

oh yeah, because Gain-Of-Function has already worked out so brilliantly for mankind. Let’s throw De-Extinction into the mix too.

Where do these (Agendas) keep coming from? Again, again. Again….

2 months ago | thumb_up 0 thumb_down 0

Maybe a more reasently extinct or near extinct animal would be a better fit for such an attempt then one that has been dead for 4000 years or whatever.

Canicus
@Canicus

I think that the whole idea of keeping it in its original condition is fundamentally unsound. Nature changes, and we’re part of it. It’s almost inevitable that this technology will be used, and we will end up reworking almost every environment. I don’t think there’s a way to avoid it.

@G-I-JEZUS

they’ve cloned cows, farms been using cloned dna for a while now. not secret.

2 months ago | thumb_up 0 thumb_down 0

@Nicu

So would we stop caring just because we can bring back extinct species? Why is that even a question? If we allow species to go extinct, it’s proof that we don’t care enough. If we understand that we have to do better, it’s proof that at least we are aware of our mistakes. So having the de-extinction technology or not, it’s always up to us to do the right thing. We can de-extinct species and also care about preserving the endangered (but still living) ones.

@TigerTeeth

8:08 In regards to the wolves they are now mercilessly hunted, trapped and killed. People think they are some giant threat. The wolves introduced were canadian grey wolves as opposed to the original species, that was far less aggressive than the “new” wolves. My point don’t play god so some rich jack wagons can “hunt” and kill them, much like don jr. killing that endangered Leopard for some internet “clout”, because that’s the only reason they want these chimera.

2 months ago | thumb_up 0 thumb_down 0

@wado1942

Even if you clone a few mammoths, you won’t learn how they really were. The new ones won’t have any ingrained pack behavior, nothing passed down from previous generations etc. In short no, we shouldn’t try bring them back because we can’t, even with 100% of DNA from dozens of different mammoths to avoid inbreeding.

Bringing them back and keeping them in the zoos sounds great but people would likely take on a different attitude if their next door neighbor kept releasing them into the neighborhood to do what they will.
